How to Simplify Your Skincare Routine, and Why It Matters More Than You Think

A study published this month in Environment International has been on my mind since I read it. 103 women switched from their usual personal care products to cleaner alternatives for just five days, going from around 12 products a day to 7. The result: measurable drops in parabens and phthalates detected in their bodies within those five days. Both are suspected endocrine disruptors, meaning chemicals that may interfere with the body's hormonal system.

Five days. Fewer products. Results inside the body.

What this tells us is both simple and significant: the products we use every day affect our bodies, and switching to cleaner options works — faster than most people expect.

This isn't about starting from scratch

The word "switch" can feel daunting. It can conjure the image of throwing out everything in your bathroom cabinet and rebuilding your routine from zero. That's not what this is.

The most useful reframe is this: be more intentional about what earns a place in your daily routine. Not fewer products for the sake of it, but fewer products that are genuinely doing something, formulated with ingredients you'd actually choose to put on your skin.

And you don't need to do it all at once. In fact, the most natural approach is simpler than that: when you finish a product, treat it as an opportunity. Before you repurchase the same thing out of habit, take a moment to consider whether there's a better option. That's it. No urgency, no waste. Just a more considered choice at the moment you'd be buying anyway.

Start with the products you use most

Start with the products you use every day. Your daily face cream, your body lotion, your SPF — these stay on your skin, and what’s in them matters. Your cleanser is a natural starting point too.

One good swap at a time is enough.

The part that usually stops people

Reading an INCI list — the standardised ingredient list on the back of every cosmetic product — is genuinely not easy. Names are long, often unpronounceable, and the marketing on the front of most packaging is designed to reassure rather than inform.

This is not a personal failing. It takes time and practice to learn to read a label well, and most people simply don't have that time or the will to go through it. And I don’t blame them, it’s not exactly fun. Which is exactly where Ô Naturel comes in.

Every brand and every product on the site is assessed against a published Quality Charter before it ever becomes available. Parabens and phthalates, two of the chemical classes measured in this study, are excluded without exception. They're suspected endocrine disruptors, and that's a line Ô Naturel doesn't cross.

When you shop at Ô Naturel, the vetting has already been done. You're choosing from a selection of products that are both clean and effective, so you don’t have to guess. You can simply shop based on what your skin needs.

The study from Grenoble confirmed something I've believed since the beginning: small, consistent choices add up. You don't need to do it all at once. You just need to know that when you're ready to make a swap, the work has already been done for you.
